Humidity & Temperature Sensors

Humidity & temperature sensors are devices used to measure and report air and moisture temperature. Also called as hygrometers, these environmental sensors translate the temperature findings and present them into electrical signals. These sensors take note of relative humidity as well. They gauge the amount of moisture in the air according to the maximum moisture at a particular temperature.

Humidity & temperature sensors are essential devices for controlling air condition. Humidity monitor devices make determining humidity levels easier and more predictable. They’re efficient and cost-effective.

Applications that benefit from humidity and temperature sensors include comfort optimization (for Smart Buildings and Facilities Management) and HVAC systems (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning). They’re also useful to some IoT (Internet of Things) applications and internet connectivity. When you’re far from home and you want to remotely adjust how hot or cold your room should be, IoT’s humidity and temperature sensors are at work.

Industries that benefit from these devices are remote monitoring, asset condition tracking, and cold storage management, among others. Humidity & temperature sensors make environments comfortable and productive, whether it’s a home, an office, or a greenhouse.

Humidity Sensor Categories

There are two categories of humidity sensors: absolute humidity (AH) and relative humidity (RH).

  • Absolute humidity calculates humidity levels without any temperature reference.
  • Relative humidity, on the other hand, is measured through a comparison of the maximum level of air humidity at the same temperature and the live humidity reading where the temperature is given. In other words, RH sensors measure temperature so they identify relative humidity.

There are two types of relative humidity sensors: resistive and capacitive.

  • Resistive RH sensors use tiny polymer combs that decrease and increase in size whenever there is a change in humidity.
  • Capacitive RH sensors monitor the capacitance of thin metal strips using two electrodes.
