DC / AC Inverters
DC/AC inverters are also known as DC/AC converters. They convert DC or direct current to AC or alternating current. It is more complex compared to converting AC to DC. One good example of a DC to AC converter application is when you need to charge your mobile device while travelling using a recreational utility vehicle. To be able to use a laptop or an LED TV while on the road, that person needs wall outlets to plug in the electronic device or gadget. Since there aren’t regular wall outlets in automobiles, just cigarette lighters (that can act as power ports), the only thing that can help is a power inverter.
Different DC/AC Applications
DC/AC applications are used in UPS or Uninterruptible Power Supplies. When the main power is interrupted, AC power is supplied by an inverter and batteries. Once the power is back, DC power recharges the batteries through a rectifier.
Inverters are also used as a DC power source. DC electricity that comes from fuel cells or batteries are easily converted to AC electricity. Motor speed controllers also use DC to AC applications. If there is a regular AC wall outlet or other similar source, the inverter’s DC power can come from there.
Other uses of DC/AC inverters are as solar inverters, for power grids, refrigeration compressors, electroshock weapons, induction heating, portable consumer devices, and power generation systems.
