The ADuM7234 is an isolated, half-bridge gate driver thatemploys the Analog Devices, Inc., iCoupler® technology toprovide independent and isolated high-side and low-sideoutputs. Combining high speed CMOS and monolithictransformer technology, this isolation component providesoutstanding performance characteristics superior tooptocoupler-based solutions.By avoiding the use of LEDs and photodiodes, this iCouplergate drive device is able to provide precision timing characteristicsnot possible with optocouplers. Furthermore, the reliability andperformance stability problems associated with optocouplerLEDs are avoided.In comparison to gate drivers employing high voltage leveltranslation methodologies, the ADuM7234 offers the benefit oftrue, galvanic isolation between the input and each output. Eachoutput may be operated up to ±350 V peak relative to the input,thereby supporting low-side switching to negative voltages. Thedifferential voltage between the high side and low side may be ashigh as 350 V peak.As a result, the ADuM7234 provides reliable control over theswitching characteristics of IGBT/MOSFET configurations overa wide range of positive or negative switching voltages.
